Suzuki RM-Z250 och RM-Z450 - 2013

Under årens lopp har motocrossmaskinerna Suzuki RM och RM-Z fört många förare till mängder av segrar och topplaceringar runt om i världen. Inför 2013 hårdsatsar Suzuki med nya RM-Z 250 och 450. Här kan du se och läsa mer om nyheterna.

Bland nyheterna, hos båda modellerna, finner vi bland annat ny växellåda, ny kolv, uppdaterad tändning, modifierad fjädring och en hel del annat. Faktum är att listan över förändringar hos de två motocrossmodellerna är rejält omfattande.

Det gulmarkerade hos motorn (ovan) anger uppdaterade/nya komponenter.

 

För race-vinnande prestanda måste en motocrossmotor bland annat vara pålitlig, effektiv och stark. Både RM-Z250 och RM-Z450 har bränsleinsprutning, och nu utlovas bättre gasrespons, och bättre effekt och vridmoment på mellanregistret.

Hos 450:n finner vi dessutom en ny, modifierad kolv, som förutom att vara 13% lättare än tidigare, även har fått en ny kolvbult (kortare och slitstarkare) och lättare vevstake. RM-Z250 har även den fått en ny kolv, som uppges vara 3 procent lättare, till följd av bland annat tunnare gods och en kortare kolvbult.

Kamaxlarna (både insug och avgas) hos de två modellerna är modifierade för mer ventillyft hos insuget och kamtiden är modifierad på avgassidan, vilket ska ge bättre effektuttag och en mer lätthanterlig motorkaraktär. Hos RM-Z450 har Suzuki framförallt fokuserat på att motorn ska få ett mer linjärt effektuttag, vilket i sin tur ger en mer lättkontrollerad motor, som bland annat spar på förarens energi. Kylarenheten hos RM-Z250 har modifierats för effektivare kylning, bland annat med modifierade kylkanaler.

Genom att öka avgassystemets längd (40 mm för RM-Z250 och 50 mm för RM-Z450) lär effekten ha ökat på botten- och mellanregistret. Vidare har ljuddämparen fått nytt stuk, och ska vara homologiserad enligt FIM:s bullerkrav.

Båda modellerna har fått ny växellåda, som lär vara ännu mer lättjobbad och distinkt än tidigare. RM-Z får en helt ny 5-stegad låga, medan RM-Z450 är uppdaterad för mer precis växling och bättre prestanda.

Suzuki har också uppdaterat elektroniken som styr den batterilösa bränsleinsprutningen. Den nya styrenheten (ECM) uppges ha en snabbare processor, vilket ska bidra till bättre gasrespons och ge en bättre och mer exakt effektleverans. Eftersom ECM-enheten numer är vattentät ska den bättre stå pall vatten, damm och lera än tidigare versioner. Även en ny, effektivare, generator finns på plats.

Hos chassiet har Suzukis ingenjörer fokuserat på att skapa en ännu mer lättmanövrerad motorcykel, utan att påverka högfartsstabilitet. Ramen har fått sig en omgång av Suzukis ingejörer också, för att säkerhetsställa att även den är optimalt balanserad. Resultatet ser du genom ny form och lär märkas genom bland annat smidigare hanterbarhet än tidigare, framförallt vid tekniskt krävande partier och ännu bättre högfarts-stabilitet.

Båda modellerna är kittade med den nya SFF-framgaffeln från Showa (SSF = Separate Function Front Fork), med dämpenhet hos det vänstra gaffelbenet, och fjäderenhet i det högra. Genom att separera på dessa delar har en lägre vikt kunnat uppnås, och samtidigt lägre friktion, vilket i slutändan ger en bättre funktion och bättre körkontroll. Framgaffelns innerben mäter 48 millimeter i diameter, där den kraftigare dimensionen ger bättre stabilitet.

Inside and out, the Suzuki RM-Z250 is a sight to behold. Beauty is skin deep, but performance goes all the way to the core, the 2013 RM-Z250. The racing weapon to win bar-to-bar battles.

New Features

E19 → Meeting new FIM sound control, without compromise of engine performance, controllability is increased.

E03,E28 → Enhances mid-to-high rpm range output and controllability without sacrificing low rpm range performance. (The E03 and E28 specifications are not subject to the FIM sound control, so they can evolve purely for performance.)

1. Through feedback from factory racing, the piston and piston pin were developed using Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. The new piston is 3% lighter without any compromise to strength or rigidity.

2. The internal shape of the passage in the crank pin was changed to capture the sludge in the engine oil and enhance the durability of the bearing at the big end.

3. The new crankcase reed valve has been made thinner for more efficient lubrication. The new oil strainer has a stronger magnet to capture more sludge from the engine oil. Both contribute to better throttle response and smoother power delivery.

4. The cam specification was reviewed and the intake cam profile and the exhaust cam timing were changed to adjust the overall output characteristic. This establishes both high output and controllability.

5. The volume of the air cleaner outlet tube has been increased to enhance the throttle response.

6. Redesigned Exhaust system:

* E19 spec – Meeting new FIM sound control while retaining engine performance with 40 mm extended exhaust pipe and redesigned internal parts of

muffler body.

* E03/28 spec – The muffler body and the internal structure were redesigned to enhance mid-to-high rpm range output and controllability without

sacrificing low rpm range performance.

7. The change in the radiator hose layout and in the radiator fin pitch enhanced the cooling performance. Also, features new by-pass hose routing to simplify radiator maintenance.

8. The completely new transmission design achieves a smooth yet solid shift feel. The method of fastening the sprocket has been changed to attain a quick shift feel.

9. The change in the clutch release cam shape reduces the force required to operate the clutch and enhances the clutch feel.

10. The new fuel pump uses different materials for lighter weight. The hose lock mechanism was also revised. This makes fuel hose installation and removal precise and simple.

11. The new muffler body uses conventional bolts in end cap instead of rivets to simplify the replacement of the glass wool packing in the muffler.

12. The all new Separate Function front Fork (SFF) from Showa, separates the spring and damping tasks. The right leg holds the spring, while the left leg incorporates the cartridge assembly to manage damping. This results in reduced friction, increased absorption performance, and weight saving.

13. The front fork inner tube diameter has been increased from 47 mm to 48 mm for optimized stability and absorption. The spring pre-load is now adjustable, which allows a wider setting range.

14. The frame and seat rail have been reviewed and refined for optimized rigidity balance. The result is an ideal balance of nimble handling and stability.

15. The link lever ratio for the rear suspension was changed to make the suspension damping characteristic progressive.

16. A dust cover has been added to rear axle for enhanced water/mud resistance.

17. The steering head dust cover has been changed to plastic with sealed bearings (from steel caps and rubber seals). These lighter components still keep out water and mud just as well.

18. The change to the newest Dunlop MX51 series tires for the front and rear tires enhanced the traction performance.

19. For ease of maintenance, the rear suspension linkage mounting bolts have been reshaped to prevent them from spinning.

20. The new ECM has higher processing performance with optimized settings. The new ignition coil has higher power. Both these changes provide optimized combustion efficiency and enhanced roll-on performance.

21. The generator specifications were reviewed and the generation and charging performance enhanced to improve ease of starting.

22. The stylish two-tone radiator shrouds with new aggressive graphics accentuate the RM-Z250's agile looks.

23. The self-diagnosis function is incorporated in the ECM. It can be notified by using the optional FI indicator (Part No. 36380-28H00). From 2013 model, the FI indicator has engine hour-meter function as well. So riders can track engine-operating time and better manage maintenance intervals.

Key Features

1. The 249cm3, 4-stroke, fuel-injected, DOHC engine, with a compact and lightweight design, powers the RM-Z250's championship-winning performance.

9. The high-quality Renthal handlebars feature a tapered design and are fixed to the triple clamp on a rubber mount.

11. Two couplers are included for quickly adjusting the fuel setting to suit the riding conditions. One is for a richer fuel setting than the stock setting and the other is for a leaner fuel setting. The customer can change the fuel setting to best suit the riding conditions by just connecting either coupler.

12. A maintenance cap for the fuel pump and a plug for the fuel hose are included for ease of maintenance when the customer removes the fuel tank for maintenance.

2. New piston pin has Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) surface treatment, for less friction and increased durability. Together with lighter piston, mechanical loss is reduced and results in enhanced throttle response.

3. New crankcase reed valve is made thinner for more efficient lubrication, new oil strainer has strong magnet catch more sludge in engine oil. Both contribute to better throttle response and smooth power delivery.

4. Intake cam timing and amount of lift are changed for smooth power delivery and ease of control.

5. Air cleaner outlet tube is reshaped for increased bottom-to-mid range power delivery. Back panel of cleaner box is now made of carbon fiber mixed material, for reduced intake noise.

* E03/28 spec –muffler body. With redesigned muffler internal parts, bottom-to-mid range power and torque are increased, results in increased controllability without losing top end.

7. Redesigned 5-speed transmission with reshaped shift cam, stopper spring and drive shaft, results in more solid shift feel, enabled more precise gear shift operation.

8. New fuel pump is made lighter, and revised locking system in connection parts of fuel hose for more precise and easier operation.

9. New muffler body is wrapped with conventional bolts, instead of rivet, for easier to re-install glass wool of muffler.
